Dr. Frank Breme present the new OBM (on-block manufacturing) concept which brings true automation to the lens manufacturing process. This issues company profile ‘Diamonds are foreven’ introduces a company that works with very small but even so very important products for the industry: diamonds for lens manufacturing.
The special theme ‘semi-finished lenses’ is covered by two articles. Julien Buisson and Hiroyuki Morijiri give in the article ‘Is the sky the limit?’ some hints that an 1.8 index and higher is imaginable while Dr. Jagdish Jethmalani explains the differences between wavefront-corrected and wavefront-guided lenses.
In MAFO 1/2009 Elke Dobisch wrote about her researches in the field of how to communicate with the customer. Get now more ideas of this theme by reading ‘Talking the consumer´s language – part II’. Elke Dobisch talks the terms ‘quality’, as well as ‘brands’, and you will get a feeling about how relevant they are in different countries and age groups.
Closing words are written by Jim Drain, President of Dac International.
