This year, Automation & Robotics will be exhibiting the new version of the Rob Control with Digital Lens Inking combined with the finish blocking for Rx lenses. This machine is dedicated to small and middle sized prescription laboratories. After positioning the lens accurately, this automatic system checks the diameter, contour, thickness, power… Afterwards the lens can be either printed by our Digital Lens Inking System (high resolution quality, no image distortion) or blocked for glazing. For the semi-finished lens manufacturers, we will be promoting our Semi-Automatic Pad Printing and Packaging Unit for SF lenses into boxes. This new technology is designed to identify, pad print, and package semi-finished lenses into boxes. A proficient operator can achieve a throughput of 300 lenses per hour. A complete range of instruments will also be exhibited.

DAC International
6390 Rose Lane
Carpinteria, CA 93013
USA

DAC International will be demonstrating the features and benefits of both their spectacle lens surfacing system, as well as their contact and intraocular lens production equipment. See the latest in ‘no polish’ lens manufacturing and the production of FreeForm lens designs.
In particular, DAC will be focusing on the newest addition to their extensive contact lens and IOL product line, the Opteq Lens Manufacturing System, comprised of Precision CNC Lathe, Ultra Blocker and Calculens Software.
The Opteq two-axis, high precision, CNC controlled contouring lathe provides a more flexible approach to lens creativity, with the certainty of producing quality lenses, time after time. It has the unique ability to produce toric edges, as well as lens geometries that include spherical, aspheric, toric, multi-focal and other irregular cornea fits. Multi-tool positions allow for greater flexibility, typically one position is reserved for the optical tool position sensor. The 3-Tool Fast Servo System provides rotationally non-symmetric geometries.
The Ultra Blocker is a dual-station, static blocker for blocking contact or intraocular lens blanks. Highly reproducible, the lens blocks ensure precision is maintained throughout the whole lens manufacturing process.
The Calculens Design Software features pull-down menus and graphic tools that guide the user intuitively from lens design, through CNC code transfer to the precision lathe.
For spectacle lens surfacing, DAC International will be demonstrating their Specialty Lens Menu and Specialty Lens Designer Software. The Specialty Lens Menu, when used in conjunction with the DAC RxD Lathe and NSLP Soft Lap Polisher, offers the most advanced digital technology available today. Labs can produce aspheres, blended round-segs, slab-offs/slab-ons, high plus and minus lenticulars, high minus wraps, in addition to PALs - easily, economically and profitably.
The DAC Specialty Lens Designer Software Point-of-Sale Software can be used as a design tool in both retail and laboratory settings. Three-dimensional imaging allows both designer and customer to visualize the finished lens before the job goes to the lab, ensuring everyone in the process knows what they’re asking for and what they’ll get. The software simplifies the order process by giving the lab everything it needs to manufacture the lenses, exactly to the specified design, quickly and efficiently. Long special order processing delays are eliminated, and customer satisfaction and loyalty are enhanced.

Proxima, the new top-of-the-range edger from Indo, includes all necessary functions for edging operations, from the basic to the most advanced features for a perfect finishing of the fitting.
Proxima offers a multimaterial edging process (mineral, CR-39, high-index, polycarbonate and Trivex) and has Indo’s special minibevel that simplifies the fitting of thin metallic frames. Tilted grooving (adjustable in depth and width), internal and external safety-bevel or a powerful drilling option (see-through holes, blind holes, slots, notches…) are other of the many possibilities offered by this sophisticated equipment to the most demanding optical shops.
Simplicity and intuitivity are key-words of this edger that assures a quick knowledge of its features and allows user customization of the interface configuration based on preferences and most common tasks. Opportunity for current Indo equipments users: the Proxima is fully compatible with the Advance range and the previous Indo series.

FreeForm lenses (PAL) and even others require different engravings intensities for permanent engraving signs and/or branding logos from ‘semi visible’ to ‘strong’. For this, Laser 2000 International presents the high-quality COX engraving system, suitable for any kind of plastics lenses. Intensity and engraving contrast can be set in a much broader range than for traditional methods. The concept of the new MC-COX engraving systems directly targets the weaknesses of traditional systems: The low CO2 laser quality and the relative high Excimer system prices. The development is aimed at a cost-effective engraving system that comes close to the Excimer systems in terms of quality for marking ophthalmic plastic lenses in high quality.

Satisloh AG

With the arrival of FreeForm generating, polishing is an even more critical step in quality lens processing, so Satisloh developed new dual polishing technologies to help laboratories improve surface quality, increase throughput, and provide best process stability. At this year’s MIDO, Satisloh will introduce two new dual spindle soft tool polishing systems: the fully-automated Duo-FLEX and the manual Toro-FLEX.
Designed for heavy-duty automated production lines, the Duo-FLEX throughput matches that of Satisloh’s VFT Generators. It’s a fully automated, CNC-controlled polishing system that utilizes Satisloh’s multi-use soft tools that are curvature optimized. These unique, long wearing tools consist of a soft, sophisticated foam layer sandwiched between a hard base cap and a process optimized polishing pad. An integrated Tool Management software automatically selects the appropriate tool from a drum loaded with 72 polishing tools and tracks tool usage, alerting the operator when it’s time to replenish any tools. The macro controlled polishing process utilizes lens data and curvature information, and polished lenses are automatically washed and dried before loaded back to job tray.
Toro-FLEX, a cost effective manually loaded system and an excellent choice for entry level digital polishing labs, utilizes an integrated pick-to-light tool management system that simplifies the process and eliminates operator decision making. Simple and robust are hallmarks of the entire Toro series polishing system family and Toro-FLEX is no exception.
Both polishers are built around our proven Tangential Polishing Process and use only seven polishing cap types for the entire working range of free form, toric, or spherical lenses.
“At Satisloh an experienced team of process engineers and machine builders is working to increase process efficiency and lower manufacturing costs for the ophthalmic industry. After successful introduction of our polishing time saving Tangential Polishing Process we built two new polishing machines utilizing this process. Besides the throughput increase of the new process and machines the surface quality of the polished lenses increased also, while maintaining the generated lens power at all times. As result we realized more productive, robust machines with higher yields than ever before,” said Herger Alt, Product Manager of Surfacing Products.
